Vancouver, BC. - The Vancouver Basketball Foundation™ had the privilege of partnering with Britannia Secondary to host their annual Cub Day! This year’s Cub Day was the biggest to date with over 120 Grade 7 students from across East Vancouver participating in this amazing event!
Cub Day started with a basketball skills clinic led by The Vancouver Basketball Foundation™ Coaches and athletes from the Britannia senior girls & boys basketball teams. Cub Day participants worked on the fundamentals of passing, rebounding, shooting, dribbling and leadership! After a high energy, hard working two hours, participants enjoyed a pizza lunch and conversation with Britannia student coaches. Although basketball is a huge part of Cub Day, the main goal is to bridge the gap between Elementary and High School students through mentorship. To facilitate this, Elementary Students were partnered with our student coaches to discuss what it means to be a Bruin with the hopes to form connections that will help ease the transition into High School. After lunch, Cub Day ramped back up for a competitive and fun 3X3 and 4X4 tournament. The elementary participants came with their game faces on and brought the energy!
A huge thank you to Britannia Secondary for bringing us back to host Cub Day, and to our high school coaches and mentors for volunteering their time, wisdom and energy and helping inspire the next generation of Britannia Bruins!
