Vancouver, British Columbia - The Vancouver Basketball Foundation™ in partnership with Girls Who LEAP and Face of Today Foundation brought a workshop titled 'Break The Silence: The Power of Active Witnessing' to a 30 Girls Who LEAP leaders and mentors. Before kicking off the in-person workshop, the leaders and mentors were greeted via Zoom by the special guest, Masai Ujiri (President of the Toronto Raptors and Founder of Giants of Africa), live from his hotel room in the NBA Bubble in Orlando.
Masai, would give a virtual tour and update of his time with the Raptors in 'The Bubble', before opening an interactive dialogue on cultural diversity through anti-racism and anti-discrimination lenses. He would speak richly from his past experiences as both a boy in Africa, to more recent experiences as a black man in San Francisco attempting to join his Championship Team on the court for celebrations of their first NBA Championship. Before completing his program with the girls, Masai, made sure to answer a question from each and every one of the 30 Leaders and Mentors - for truly special moments and conversations for all.
The second portion of the workshop was led by Angela Brown (Hands Consulting), who led a conversation focused sharing and learning experience for the Girls - who were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone. This highly impactful workshop left this group of girls feeling inspired, brave, and undoubtedly more educated - all important qualities for the next generation of leaders we will look to in order to better our world.
